Blessed with good weather towards the end of June, there was a good turnout from members for the GB2CM operation from Crossness on Sunday 23 June. A VHF antenna and the centre of an HF doublet were mounted at 50ft on a cherry picker. Operation started just before 10am with a QSO on 2m FM with Frank G0FDP, and several other club members were worked. A total of 38 QSOs were made on 2m FM, and a single contact was made with G7PEB on 6m but unfortunately there was no Sporadic E propagation.

On HF, this was the first outing of the club’s new FTdx10 transceiver and Elecraft KPA-500 amplifier, and both worked well. 153 QSOs were made but HF conditions were badly affected by a CME, so nothing was worked outside of Europe and 40m saw the bulk of activity. 153 QSOs were made in total. The event coincided with Museums on the Air weekend, and seven other GB stations were worked on 40m.

Several visitors expressed interest but we were positioned away from the main attractions at Crossness and the ‘passing traffic’ was, understandably, keen to get straight on to see the engines, so very few stopped to find out what the station was all about.

Jakub M0KUK had other commitments but came along later in the day and had a good run of stations going on 40m while. At 4pm sharp, we started packing away the station around him.

The last transmission was at five minutes past four, and by four-thirty thanks to the large number of helpers, everything was dismantled and put into vehicles to be taken off site. Another successful special event, thanks to all the club members who contributed.
